John 17:3 "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
When we meet someone for the first time, we become curious as to who they are, where they come from, what they do for a living, are they married, do they have children , etc... etc... If we like them we want to invite them for a coffee and talk to get more intimate with that person.
So, did we have that same curiosity when we met God for the first time or did we go by what was taught to us about him? Did we feel he was unreachable enough to get intimate with him?
The truth is He is reachable and he desires to have an intimate relationship with you. We need to have that intimacy so that we can understand His will and know His heart.
David was known to be a man after God's heart. David knew he needed to have intimacy with His God (Psalms 63:1 Psalms 6-8). He knew he could not live without having an intimate relationship with God. Psalms 51:11 shows how he cries out to God and says do not cast your presence from me and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. Does this sound familiar? It actually sounds as if an intimate relationship is coming to an end and you feel like you are without breath. The awesome news is that, we can achieve this same intimate relationship with God. But we have to truly yearn to get close to God. Getting closer to Him allows us to know His nature, how he speaks and more importantly recognize His voice. John 10:27: my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. We sometimes want God for what he can do or give us but we don't want to have a relationship with him. It's like friends with benefits. Got me? Let me define intimacy: it means a close, familiar, and usually affectionate loving personal relationship with another person or groups. Another definition is a close association with it detailed knowledge or deep understanding of a place, subject, period of history, etc.... Prayer is the key to having a deeper relationship with God. It is important to have daily talks with our God in heaven. Talking to God takes us to a higher level of relationship with Him. Without having direct personal connection with God we only learn about God without ever growing to actually knowing Him. By spending time in prayer and meditation we come to know God in a more personal way. In that intimacy we get to know Him in all His characteristics. We get to know him as : ELOHIM (God) El ELYON (The Most High God) ADONAI (Lord Master) EL SHADDAI (Lord God Almighty) JEHOVAH JIREH (The Lord Will Provide) JEHOVAH RAPHA (The Lord Who Heals) JEHOVAH NISSI (The Lord is My Banner) JEHOVAH SHALOM (The Lord My Peace) JEHOVAH RAAH (The Lord is My Shepherd) JEHOVAH SHAMMAH (The Lord is There) So many many more names we can get to know God by. In my personal walk with God I have got to know Him as El Shaddai, because in my sinful state he was mighty to save me; Jehovah Jireh, because in my times of need, when I lost it all and everyone turned their back on me, He provided my every need; Jehovah Rapha, because when the doctors told me that my heart was weak and was only beating at 40 bpm he restored my heartbeat and today it beats at 60-80 bpm; Jehovah Nissi, because every battle that I have endured He has been my victory and has planted a banner; Jehovah Shalom, because in the midst of chaos He has been my peace. I can go on and on... How much do you desire for Him to be your everything? Who is God to you? I challenge you to enter into a deeper relationship with God. You will live an abundant live like never before.
